We Still Live Here - DVD

"Âs Nutayuneân"—We Still Live Here—is more than a documentary; it is our story, the story of the Wampanoag people of Southeastern Massachusetts. Our ancestors played a vital role in ensuring the survival of the Pilgrims, yet our language was nearly lost to time. But now, the Wampanoag Tribes of Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard have reclaimed our Native tongue, standing tall and proclaiming, "Âs Nutayuneân"—We Still Live Here.

The film follows Jessie Little Doe Baird, a fellow Wampanoag and social worker, who was guided by recurring dreams of our ancestors speaking in a language she couldn't initially understand. These dreams ignited a journey that led her to discover hundreds of documents in our language, earn a Master’s in Linguistics from MIT, and accomplish something unprecedented: reclaiming our language after generations without Native speakers. This documentary highlights our incredible journey and underscores the vital importance of preserving indigenous languages, ensuring that our heritage lives on.
