Mashpee Class Schedule

Subject: Wôpanâôt8âtôh (Let's Speak Wampanoag)

Come speak your Native language -- No language experience needed!  You will learn how to:

  • Introduce yourself and others
  • Name common items
  • Discuss the weather
  • Play board games and card games in the language
  • Role play in the language (going to the grocery store, the doctor, etc.)

This is a safe learning environment with varied levels of speakers. "Mistakes" are encouraged -- just bring yourself and excitement to speak! This group may continue into the winter based on scheduling and interest.

Pre-requisites: None. This class is open to all level of speakers

Subject: Introduction to the Language, plus Animate Intransitive Verbs and Conjunct Verbs

This new class offering will consist of three consecutive workbooks:  Introduction to the Language, Animate Intransitive Verbs, and Conjunct Verbs.  While this class is ideal for anyone wishing to become certified to teach the language, anyone who is interested in getting an in-depth understanding of the language is welcome to attend.

Pre-requisites: None. This class is open to all level of speakers.  Please register at the first class.

Subject: Elders Lunch and Learn Classes

These special elders-only (age 55+) classes are held in partnership with Tribal Health Title VI nutrition programming for Mashpee Tribal elders.

Subject: High School Beginner Wôpanâak Pasaq (Wôpanâak Level 1) and Wôpanâak Nees (Wôpanâak Level 2)
This class for Mashpee High School students is offered in partnership with the Mashpee Public School District and the Wampanoag Tribal Education Department with funding from the Office of Indian Education.   Students learn Wôpanâak (vocabulary, sentence structure, conversation, etc.) as well as Wampanoag history.
